Upper East Side and Meatpacking

Is it wrong that I've heard of this place but always been a little turned off by the name? Well, this is a well needed lesson not to judge a restaurant by what it's called. Mussel pots range from $25-$35 a piece ranging in white wine, red, cream, and other (such as curry) varieties. My friend and I ordered the parma along with the “flexy” special of the day which was a red sauce based pot with clams, shrimp and chorizo mixed in and a side of fries. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the portions were generous with about a pound of mussels per order. The mussels were also on the larger/meatier side in comparison to the ones i pick up from whole foods and by the end, we were ridiculously full even though we came hungry. The broth for the parmesan was very rich but also flavorful packed with lemon, garlic, and butter. Pro tip was when we came up with the brilliant idea to quickly double dip in both broths. The fries were crunchy and finally the doughnuts we got for dessert were tasty and surprisingly light. All in all, well executed and filling, I’d come back if I ever need a serious mussel fix.
