Carroll Gardens
After a failed attempt at going to Lucali, our party quickly pivoted to this southern restaurant close by the subway stop. Although it has a very casual atmosphere and communal tables, don't be fooled. This place makes a standout fried chicken with a very light and crispy crust and super tender insides. I highly recommend the thighs for the dark meat. Also as an added bonus, TATER TOTS, the most underrated version of fried potatoes, and plenty other sides like mac and fried pickles. All of this comes at a very reasonable price point (4-5 dollars for most sides and appetizers and 3-5 dollars per piece of chicken) which makes Wilma Jean a winner in my book.
