Sunset Park

I've heard great things about the Asian food in this Brooklyn neighborhood for the past year and finally got around to make the trek. We started off at a Taiwanese fried chicken place aptly called Chi Ken which also served fried squid, cutlets and bento boxes with lu rou fan (pork rice) and cabbage. We ended up sticking with the basil fried chicken and compared to others I've tried in the city (Vivi bubble tea, Taiwan pork chop house) this was definitely better. It had a really nice sweet taste and was incredibly soft and tender. My only additional ask would have been some soy or hot sauce on top.

Next up was the main course at Fei Long Food Court. Similar to Flushing, this food court was at the center of a small shopping complex but unlike Flushing, my two friends were the only people in the packed court that weren't Asian. I found that none of the staff I tried to communicate with spoke English and most of the signs are completely in Chinese but the printed out menus often had English translations. We first got soup dumplings (little less than 5 dollars for 6 of them!) at Shanghai Dumpling House at the bottom left corner of the court. Not only were they cheap but came out in less than 2 minutes and were filled with a delicious and incredibly tender/fatty filling. My only complaint is that they weren't filled with more soup and the skin was on the thick side. We also picked up a dry hot pot filled with a mixture of seafood, tofu, and vegetables which was spicy and enormous for three people. Lastly, we got an order of the roast pork which was my favorite item.

For dessert we stopped at Generosa's Bakery - a very humble looking Italian bake shop with a manageable selection of sweets. The cannoli here are spectacular. I generally find cannoli too dry or sweet but the mini ones from here are filled on the spot and just right in terms of thickness. The lobster tail was also one of the most enormous I have ever seen and the raspberry jelly filled cookies...don't get me started.

I've resolved that I must come back to try out more of the Latin, Thai, and Malaysian food options that are prevalent in this area as well.
