Tribeca

Café China's spin-off in Tribeca serves traditional Shanghainese food in a dig thats décor is just as on point: reminiscent of your grandma's parlor outfitted in dark but delicate wood and walls colored somewhere between an elegant cornflower and tiffany blue. The food tastes authentic and clean and includes staples such as steamed whole fish in ginger, mustard greens, soup dumplings, duck, and eggplant. The standouts were the eggplant as well as the fish but everything we ate was good with the exception of the ribs which were in a delectable-looking sauce that turned out to be pretty flavorless upon eating. The main thing I appreciated was the China Blue, like Café China, does not attempt to reinvent the wheel by taking it's own spin on classics like many Asian restaurants these days. Instead, it aims to loyally execute the flavors to as closely match what you remember tasting at your own kitchen table but at a remarkable quality.
