West Village

Like classic New Yorkers, although my roommate and I live together, we barely get to spend one-on-one time so we’ve instituted a policy called “Roommate Date” when if we start feeling like it’s been too long, we go on a date night together. My roommate has been raving about this place so I was very excited to try it. At night, the décor and amber lighting in the restaurant is so cozy and romantic and the tables are close together. The food is Israeli and very vegetarian friendly with a number of starter dishes that we opted for instead of the mains. We ordered the jerusalem bagel, fried olives, shishito peppers, Japanese eggplant, and everyday cauliflower. The “bagel” was very large, covered in sesame seeds, and soft on the inside served with olive oil and a spice blend which was very flavorful. The shishito peppers were also good although perhaps a little too soft. The cauliflower was well roasted and the peanut tahini was very good, so good I wish there had been more of it on the plate. My favorites overall were the olives that were served in a creamy labne and the Japanese eggplant which was served with a tahini sauce mixed with miso. We finished with the broken baklava which was really delicious with the pistachio ice cream, nuts, cream, and rose all melding together.

Overall, the atmosphere was perfect for impressing a date and all the dishes are beautiful for a very reasonable price point. The food is clean and simple but obviously of high quality and makes you feel just as refined as the restaurant even after eating multiple courses.
