Williamsburg
Finally, after living in NYC for two years I made the pilgrimage to this Brooklyn old-school temple to meat. Just to give some perspective, dinner reservations were not available for the next month between 6-8pm and so we went for lunch. We started with the shrimp cocktail which came with monstrously large shrimp which were very fresh but not as tender as the smaller ones. We ordered the steak for 4 and the broccoli, dutch potatoes, french fries, creamed spinach, and caesar salad as sides. The steak itself was massive and had a great chare to it making the outside crispy but was overall not as remarkable as say, the steak I ate in San Sebastian or the aged wagyu steak at Reserve Cut. The sides though were fresh and great (some of the best creamed spinach I’ve ever had) and the showstopper was actually the apple strudel for dessert. It was super flaky and delicious with the home made whipped cream (very similar to cool whip in consistency). Gold coins are also served at the end and you really get the atmosphere of the restaurant being a New York institution, the waiters look like they’ve been working there for generations. Overall, a very solid and classic meal but not overly filling as I had expected.
