The Drunken Dumpling has been on my list since it hit the scene a year ago. Now that they hype has died down, I was able to secure one of their legendary XL dumplings (which they only have 20 of each day). I had low expectations because quality>quantity right? But overall the giant soup dumpling exceeded my expectations. The dumpling was supremely difficult to eat; the soup was crazy hot so the straws were a cute but terrible idea so if I ever did this again, I'd suggest poking the dumpling with the straw and then using the spoon to collect the soup that comes out of the straw poke holes. Afterward, the dumpling skin and filling can be tackled. The skin was pretty thick and against all my principles of what a good soup dumpling should be but the broth itself was surprisingly ginger-y and not overly oily. The meat also was tasty with bits of vegetables and was still soft and tender. Outside of the mondo dumpling though, the normal soup dumplings are standardly delicious and the fried bao and dumplings are surprisingly just as wet and soupy as the soup dumplings so watch out! Overall, everything was flavorful but challenging to eat due to how juicy everything was. If you're up to the challenge, I'd suggest checking out the hype for yourself but this place is not for the dumpling novice.
