West Village

Although a contradiction, this place falls into the category of what I'd like to term "old-school hype." Unlike other restaurants that fall into the hype category such as anything from the Momofuku chain or the overly-instagrammed dessert spot of the season (e.g.,Do), The Spotted Pig has always had a long wait and good food. No matter how cliché Balthazar brunch is or how many tourists are waiting outside, it's still delicious and you can't deny that and this West Village spot is similar. Specifically come here for 1. the gnudi (fried ricotta balls in a seasoned butter sauce.....I mean come on) 2. the burger. I'm a huge fan of burgers for brunch (it always feels like a cope out but it was more delicious and filling than eggs) and The Spotted Pig has possibly my favorite in the city. It's super soft and flavored liberally with Roquefort (a very pungent blue cheese), the bun is extra crispy, and the rosemary seasoned fries....oh my lord they are the holy grail of shoe-strings.
