Top 5 Trader Joe's Items

This is a bit of a cross-over list but I thought it’d be useful to have some strategy when making your pilgrimage to TJ’s (the staple of all single millennials) instead of getting straight in the line and picking up impulse buys as you go.
Top 5
Mirepoix
Mirepoix is a mixture of finely chopped carrots, onions, and celery and is the basic building block of almost every type of stew, sauce or soup. I used to think I hated celery but it really gives a specific flavor that I didn’t realized was in most French food until I started reading more about it. If you have the time, you can do this yourself much more economically by buying the whole vegetables but if you’re short on time, it’s great to have a few of these stocked up. They generally last about 1 week.
Goat cheese log
The silver goat cheese log at TJs is one of the cheapest ones I can find (even cheaper that Costco!). Goat cheese is versatile because you can put it in salads to give a creamy coating to everything, add to omelets, spread on bread, and mix into pasta.
Cookie butter ice cream
I’m partly sorry I told you this existed because it’s like pandora’s box: once you open the pint there’s no closing it. Cookie butter on it’s own is sensational. It’s basically little bits of buttery cinnamon-y cookie mixed into a creamy spread. It’s basically a cookie in spread form. Then imagine chunks of that being blended into vanilla ice cream. Mind (and stomach) blown.
Honey roasted sliced almonds
These sliced almonds are addicting and not overtly terrible for you! They are great in salads, yogurt and ice cream to add a little somethin’ somethin’. They are also great own straight out of the package as a quick snack.
Pre-cut slaw
I buy this when I'm too lazy to finely chop kale, broccoli stems, carrots, or cabbage and this stuff is so easy to use. I add mayo, salad dressing, and some vinegar to turn this into a slaw which I can quickly add as a side to anything or on top of sandwiches. You can add this to a stir fry too or in a salad. What millennial doesn't need more greens in their diet?
